Experiments in Smores

This was originally posted on my other blog, What If. I’m moving it – and all of my baking posts – here in the next few weeks.

It’s a simple one tonight.

I was supposed to bake a cake but forgot to buy eggs. This was Brad’s idea for a replacement dessert.

Ironic, considering Brad hates camping.

Brad’s Smore

  • graham crackers, snapped in half
  • mini marshmallows (they stay on the cracker better if they aren’t as fresh and are stuck together) or large marshmallows
  • chocolate chips

Set a toaster oven or regular oven on broil. Arrange the crackers on a heat-proof surface. Put about 8-10 mini marshmallows side by side (not on top of each other, which will make it harder to add the chocolate chips later) or 1 large marshmallow on each half cracker. Place under the broiler for about 10-15 seconds, watching closely so that you brown but don’t burn the marshmallow. Carefully remove them from the oven and place 8-10 chocolate chips on top of the marshmallow; you can push down gently if they aren’t staying where you want them and should stick to the marshmallow. Place another half of a cracker on top and push down, making sure that you apply pressure to the whole cracker, not just one part, so that it doesn’t crack. The entire sandwich should still be about 1 1/2 inches tall at this point. Return the smores to the broiler for another 10-15 seconds.

They are ready to smoosh and eat as soon as you take them out.
